Synopsis:

This one-man show features Teddy Roosevelt’s outdoor adventures over several decades, from hunting in the woods of Maine, to his ranching days on the Dakota frontier.  It features Alan Sutterfield who has toured as TR in Yosemite National Park and across the country.

Spring is a fantastic time for observing birds at Oso Flaco Lake.  Many of our winter visitors are getting ready to migrate north to their breeding grounds and many of our spring migrants have already arrived.  They will all likely be in their breeding plumage and may be singing their territorial songs.  Walking through the “Willow Tunnel” at the start of the bird hike can be stunning with all the birds singing.  Once we reach the lakes, ducks, American White Pelicans and rails should be plentiful.  Who knows?  We may even be treated to a Belted Kingfisher, an Osprey or two or maybe even a Peregrine Falcon!  That’s the beauty of a bird hike; you never know what you will find until you get out there.  Other critters that have been seen on these walks include Raccoons, Muskrats, Opossums, Coyotes and Bobcats.  Oh, and don’t forget the Gray Whales!

This 3 mile and 2-3 hour hike will take us from the parking lot out to the ocean.  Don’t be intimidated by the distance of this hike.  If you only want to do a 1- or 2-mile hike, or even a just a 100-yard hike, you shouldn’t be disappointed.

So, be at the parking lot at 8:00 a.m. and join our docent John Deacon for what is sure to be a fun and informative morning.  We’ve included a few pictures of the birds and creatures we may see on our hike.  See you there!

Three Speckled Hens Antiques and Old Stuff Show

Located in the famous Paso Robles Event Center, the Three Speckled Hens Antiques and Old Stuff Show is a biannual event that specializes in selling one-of-a-kind antique and vintage items. Over 100 vendors will participate in the show, selling everything from antiques and vintage items to re-purposed treasures.  

The show's "Coop Cafe" will offer breakfast and lunch items, while food trucks will be on-site to give you even more snacking choices. If a Bloody Mary or a glass of wine is what you want to sip while shopping, we will have a Bar for your enjoyment. If you have to leave for any reason, remember that you can re-enter the show for free!  

The show also features a "Hen Pecked Husband" area with comfortable chairs and reading material, allowing men to relax while their wives get their shopping fix.

Friday Feathered Frenzy ($40.00):
Limited to only 700 participants, we are celebrating the triumphant return of our show with the new Friday Feathered Frenzy event. Ticket holders will enjoy this bonus night at the show, including entertainment and also include early bird admittance on Saturday at 8:00AM and all day Sunday from 9:00AM to 3:00PM. Children under 12 are free.

Marcia Page and her husband Larry Bender are a whirlwind of creativity. Their large property is a wonderland filled with special horticultural and garden art effects popping up everywhere. On garden tour day from 12-5pm we’ll be treated to blues by The Melvin and Brucifer Show—blues duo Michael Melchione and Bruce Willard.

The 37^th Annual Central Coast Renaissance Festival will roll the calendar back 450 years on July 15 and 16, 2023,  in San Luis Obispo's Laguna Lake Park.

Relax on a shady hay bale and watch riotous stage plays and hilarious comedy acts throughout the village. You’ll see authentic Elizabethan dancing, plays, singing, a falconry show, magic, juggling, and crazy buffoonery. Throughout the village, you’ll see living history demonstrations. The entertainment is amazing and continuous throughout the day. It doesn’t just happen on the stages, it is in the streets and throughout the village at every turn.

See knights in full battle armor demonstrating their fighting skills. This is a hugely popular event. You might have seen them on the History Channel’s series,  Knight Fight. These are the best of the best at their game. These guys aren’t messing around. Using steel swords, axes, and polearms, combatants are permitted to strike with weapons, shields, fists, and feet, until the last man is standing. Shows are held twice daily, at 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM.

You’ll be delighted by the finest craftsmen selling unique arts, crafts, and sundry goods. From hand-thrown pottery to drinking vessels, there is something for every taste and budget. Gentlemen always enjoy shopping from the sword and leather merchants, while ladies can’t resist the array of fine clothing and jewelry. You can even have your hair braided into the most beautiful designs and get a henna tattoo. You’re sure to find a special gift for yourself and someone else. Most vendors accept credit cards.

Sunday is Pirate Day Both days will transport you back to the 16th century, in the age of Queen Elizabeth in England, but on Sunday the emphasis shifts to pirates and vendors will bring out pirate wares and many will dress as pirates. Both days are a magical experience.

There is something for all ages. We didn’t forget the youngsters, who will enjoy face painting, storytelling, a magic show, and games just for them. 

Dress them up for the very popular children’s costume contest where everyone gets something and the winners take away top prizes. 

 There’s also a free Pirate’s Treasure Hunt for kids on Sunday. Every child will receive a  Booty Bag to collect their treasures in and keep. There is no cost to participate and the booty is something they’ll treasure (pun intended) for years.

Treat your taste buds to a bounty of delicious foods. With all this excitement you are sure to get hungry and we’re prepared to please any palate. A wide variety of delicious food, including the festival's favorite roasted turkey legs, meat pies, fruit pastries, and more will be available, along with ale, beer, cider, wine, honey mead, and refreshing non-alcoholic drinks.

Costumes Are Welcome But Are Not Required

Now don’t think that you have to wear a costume to attend the festival. This is not true! Only the participants putting on and participating in the festival are required to wear costumes (we call it “garb”). You may come as you wish. 

However ... you are more than welcome to come in a full costume, or perhaps a woman might simply wear a peasant blouse or skirt, or a hair wreath or straw hat that makes you feel more a part of the fantasy. 

Check out Goodwill and thrift stores for some inexpensive costume pieces. There are plenty of vendors at the festival who have everything you might wish to purchase, from hats, shirts, bodices, and breeches to handmade boots and shoes, drinking vessels, and anything else needed to become an Elizabethan at any level from peasant to nobility. Dante Marsh & The Vibe Setters are a high energy Pop/Soul band based out of San Luis Obispo. Dante has played and written in Nashville, Kauai, LA, and recently met his band mates in San Luis Obispo CA. Dante Marsh & The Vibe Setters have played in many sold out shows and have opened for many world class names, more recently opened for Steele Pulse and Journey.
