Songwriters at Play celebrates the music of Chris Stapleton and Brandi Carlile, with a tribute concert on Sat. July 8. Show begins at 5pm, at SLO Wine and Beer Co., 3536 South Higuera St., San Luis Obispo. Tickets are $20 general admission.
Chris Stapleton and Brandi Carlile are both multi-Grammy winners. Stapleton has co-written six number-one country songs, and is a platinum-selling solo artist. Carlile is also a top-selling artist, whose music spans many genres, including folk rock, alternative country, Americana, and classic rock.
The performers in the July 8 tribute include Central Coast favorites Cassi Nicholls, Walk the Whale, J. Gavin, Gary Garrett, and Jolon Station Band, plus Bay Area balladeer Jesse Loren Strickman, and L.A.-based artists Caitlin Mahoney, Julie Lee, Pi Jacobs, and Laura Joy.
The concert is produced by Songwriters at Play, husband-wife team, Steve Key and Bonnie Nelson-Key. Most of their events feature artists performing original material (such as every other Wednesday at SLO Wine and Beer Co.), but they have hosted many tributes over the years. Their tribute subjects have included Tom Petty, Stevie Nicks, Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, Eric Clapton, Merle Haggard, Woody Guthrie, and Sam Cooke.
