Join a live docent via Zoom for an interactive virtual tour of the Point San Luis Lighthouse. Travel back in time to 1890, delve into the light station’s history, explore the grounds, wander through the keeper’s dwelling, climb to the top of the lighthouse tower, step inside the fog signal building and admire our stunning fourth-order Fresnel lens.
Tours run every Wednesday at 2:00 PM and last about an hour. Make your reservation by noon on Wednesday in order to receive a Zoom invitation for that afternoon’s tour. You will need a desktop, laptop, tablet or smartphone with Zoom capability in order to participate.
The Point San Luis Lighthouse at Avila Beach in California has been beautifully decorated for the festive season. Using Zoom, a docent will lead guests on a walking tour of this historic site. Guests will travel back in time to December 1890, delve into the lighthouse’s history, and see all the things one would see on an “in-person” tour, plus more. We’ll explore the light station’s grounds, visit the head Keeper’s dwelling and see all the rooms which have been all decked out for the holidays with old-fashioned ornaments and trim, climb the lighthouse tower to the lantern room with its spectacular views of San Luis Bay, step inside the fog signal room, admire the beautiful Fresnel lens, and see its beacon flashing.
Along the way, the docent will talk about how, through the years, the keepers and their families at Point San Luis “made merry” during Yuletide.
Tours run every Wednesday and Saturday at 2 pm (Pacific Time) during December and last about an hour. Tickets are $10. All ticket proceeds go toward operating, maintaining, restoring, and preserving this California Central Coast hidden gem.
