Join us for a docent led tour of the buildings and grounds of the historic Point San Luis Light Station.

Enjoy a scenic ride up the Lighthouse Road in a SLO SafeRide van to the Point San Luis Lighthouse where you will be met by a docent and led on a personalized tour of the buildings and grounds of this historic site established in 1890. 

Masks are required only for unvaccinated visitors.  No pets allowed.

 

Special Holiday Tours

To celebrate this special season the Point San Luis. Lighthouse Keepers is offering special tours during the entire month of December. Dedicated volunteers have lovingly festooned the Head Keepers Quarters and its attached Lantern Tower with Victorian period Christmas décor to enhance your tour experience. Docents in period appropriate attire will be present to assist your tour.

Following your casual tour join some of our volunteers in the Fog Signal Building for a cup of Wassail and an opportunity to discover some of the ways you can join the Keepers family fun and help achieve our mission to restore, maintain, preserve, and operate this historical site for the education and enjoyment of the public.

The Point San Luis Lighthouse Keepers welcomes you to join our docent-led interpretive tours to experience a rich history of the beautifully restored Lighthouse, the Hornhouse, and other structures. Our tours will give you a glimpse into the lives of Lighthouse Keepers and their families, while helping keep our jewel of the Central Coast preserved and protected. Point San Luis is part of the Port San Luis Harbor District.

Our mission is to restore, preserve, maintain, and operate the Point San Luis Lighthouse Station, circa 1890, as an historical, educational, and recreational site, for the use and enjoyment of the public through tours, events, and educational programs. Point San Luis is part of the Harbor District’s vision of maintaining a sustainable harbor that preserves our marine heritage and character.

We are a 501(c)3 charitable organization and are supported by people like you. Proceeds from tours, weddings, memberships, events, donations, and special events all go into preserving the Lighthouse and it’s history.

Refund Policy

All items are nonrefundable under any circumstances. 

Cancellation Policy

All sales are final.  Tickets may be transferred in case of emergency if notified within 24 hours of cancellation. 

Item Transfer Policy

Ticket transfer requests may be issued once with 24 hour notice of cancellation in case of emergency.  No ticket transfers will be issued without 24 hour notice of cancellation. 

Miscellaneous Policies

No pets allowed.

Parking for tours is located approximately 3.5 miles west of the Avila Beach Drive exit from 101 Highway at Wild Cherry Canyon. 

 

Turn right into a chain link fenced parking lot.  There is a banner saying Lighthouse Tour Parking on the fence and a gate attendant to allow entry.  If you reach the Diablo Canyon entrance or the port you have gone too far.
