Join the Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes Center on April 30, 2022 at 8 am while our hike docent, John Deacon leads a bird hike through Oso Flaco Lake, through the dunes and out to the ocean (about 3 miles round trip).

Early spring is a great time to observe birds at Oso Flaco. Our winter migrants should still be here. However, they will be brightening up to their breeding colors and many will be practicing their songs for when they reach their breeding grounds. Also, early spring migrants will be arriving in their breeding colors and will be setting up territories and trying to attract mates with their beautiful songs.

We can expect to see: Breeding Plumage Ruddy Ducks, Cinnamon Teal, Green Herons, Chestnut Backed Chickadee, Yellow Warblers and Wilson’s Warblers along our hike to the ocean. If we are lucky, we may see lots of migrating sandpipers on the way to their breeding grounds as far north as Alaska.

Bring your binoculars and bird guides, we will be stopping along the hike to see what we can spot.

Hike Intensity: Easy beginner hike on a board walk out to the beach.
