The Central Coast State Parks Association is excited to announce our second annual gala event now that COVID-19 shutdowns are hopefully behind us. This year’s Butterfly Ball, the Monarch Masquerade, is scheduled for October 23, 2021 and will feature mixology, a silent auction, performances by the Civic Ballet and other special guests, a guided art experience, delectable dining, informative speakers, and dancing to local Americana band The Mother Corn Shuckers. The goal of the Butterfly Ball is to raise funds for a program we are launching, the “Western Monarch Trail.” The purpose of this effort is to shine a light on the plight of the Western Monarch population, which has declined more than 90% since the 1990s. This campaign will kickstart political actions as well as provide resources and educational materials that focus on preservation in locations where Western monarchs overwinter, including the Pismo State Beach Monarch Butterfly Grove and other local sites. We will be collaborating with other organizations such as the Xerces Society, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, with the hope of rebuilding the population of this valuable species.

With your help, we will create a network of support for the Western Monarch as they face a challenging future. With their population drastically declining, the recovery of the Western monarch population and the creation of The Western Monarch Trail starts with YOU!

The Central Coast State Parks Association (CCSPA), in partnership with California State Parks in San Luis Obispo County, supports interpretation, education and volunteer efforts while promoting public awareness and stewardship of our natural resources and cultural heritage. Our organization is an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit. We are one of 85 similar cooperating associations across the state who work in partnership with the state parks.
